Certain
types of blockage of blood vessels in the retina may be an indicator of a
recently developed heart arrhythmia called Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) according
to research reported in BMC
Cardiovascular Disorders. Atrial
Fibrillation (AFib) is the most common type of cardiac or heart arrhythmia
where patients experience an irregular and often rapid heart rate that can increase the
risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. While any
retinal artery or vein occlusion warrants a complete workup by a cardiologist,
in particular if you should suffer a Retinal Artery Occlusion (RAO) you have a
significant risk of having a recent onset of AFib.
